Don't Be Afraid of Printing

Consider these facts about how print is recycled and reused:

87% of Americans have access to curbside or drop off recycling programs and 63.5% of all paper consumed in the U.S. was recovered for recycling in 2010.

There are 12 million more acres of forest that exist in the U.S. today than 20 years ago.

1.7 million trees are planted every day by the U.S. paper and forest products industry; and 600 million annually worldwide.

How can printing be ecologically friendly when it uses paper?

• Paper has been the most energetically recycled material over time.
• In 2009, 63.4% of all paper used in the US was recycled and this percentage grows each year.
• When trees on paper producing tree farms are harvested, new stocks are planted. Three trees are planted for each one felled; over 1.7 million new tress are planted each year in the US.
• Only 11% of the world’s forests are used for paper, ( 28% for lumber and 53% for fuel)
• 12 million MORE acres of forest exist in the US than there was 20 years ago.
